We, the undersigned, wishing to secure for ourselves the pleasures and benefits of the association of persons commonly interested in Amateur Radio, constitute the St. Charles Amateur Radio Club and enact this constitution as our governing law. It shall be our purpose to further the exchange of information and cooperation between members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism and individual operating efficiency, and to so conduct Club Programs and activities as to advance the general interest and welfare of amateur radio in the community.
Doubtful that anyone will find Yogi or Boo-boo at the club's picnic, but what isn't in doubt will be all that 4 October will be "the happening" SCARC fun spot for the family to be on that Saturday while at Cuiver River State Part!
So what will be so special about Saturday, October 4? Please, do tell!
First off, the food of course! Chefs Ron (KO0Z) and Jim (N0PTN) will delight all in attendance with their cordon-bleu woodland, culinary, delctable menu which includes suc SCARC favorites as brats, hamburgers and hotdogs. Everyone is asked to bring either a covered dish, chips, dips or a dessert. Soda will be provided. Although chefs Ron and Jim pale in comparison to chefs William and Susanne so what at least the food will still be edible and free! Lunch will be served arond 12:30 pm. Now that the most important aspect of the picnic is out of the way - on to radio matters. Starting at 10:30 am the VHF-UHF antenna contest will commence. Bring in that two meter or 70 cm yagi and see just what it will really do in the field. Ron and Jim plan to set up an antenna range with a spectrum
analyzer, reference dipole antenna and charts so that each participant will not only know what the antenna's gain is but what it's pattern is out in the open. Some type of prizes will be awarded but at the time this article was written, sources close to Jim and Ron said that, "they haven't had a chance to go dumpster diving for prices as of yet".
Now that the two meter or 70 cm yagi's performance is now a known factor why not put it further to the test and participate in a fox hunt? Jim, N0PTN gladly volunteered to be the fox. He said, "I guess I'll be the fox so that way the others will have a chance to win!" PTN plans to be somewhere within the boundaries of the state park and the hunt will begin at 2:30 pm.
Doesn't this event sound like fun! With the coming of fall colors and the promise of a warm fire in the stone pavillion why would anyone wish to miss it? To get to the park take Interstate 70 to Hwy 40/61 North to Troy, MO. Make a right on to MO Hwy 47 and travel 3 miles to the east and the park's entrance is on the left.
For the state park map follow this link. For planning purposes
please let Ron or Jim know how many will be in attendance either through email, the two-meter net or at the
September club meeting.
